Our Home
A HOME SUSTAINED BY GENEROSITY
The Sacramento Dharma Center opened its doors as a refuge for meditation-based Buddhist sanghas in 2016. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to buy the former credit union building and transform it into a center for the dharma. Since then, the stillness of sitting, the sound of chanting, and the warmth of friendship have filled that sanctuary. Week after week, teachers and practitioners from Valley Streams Zen Sangha, Sacramento Insight Meditation, and Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group have gathered in the meditation hall to share the wisdom of the dharma and care for the sangha. But the center's heart doesn't beat on inspiration alone. Behind every class, retreat, and gathering is the constant, invisible work that keeps the doors open- balancing the books, tending the gardens, and welcoming everyone.
Thirteen drought-tolerant trees to shade the grounds
A place for community gathering
A hand-crafted ceramic sign at the entrance to welcome visitors
A labyrinth for walking meditation
Gardens that honor founder Susan Orr and Jizō, the bodhisattva of grief
A library of more than 1,600 Buddhist books in a sun-filled room
In the past, your gifts also funded the AV equipment that opened our meditation hall to the modern world. Each week, teachers and practitioners join from afar to keep our community connected through challenge and change.
But the Sacramento Dharma Center is more than a building. It is a living expression of mindfulness, interbeing/connection, and generosity. Every donation-no matter how small-helps the Dharma flourish. Every dollar helps light the hall, warm the rooms, and create welcoming stillness for every visitor. By becoming a monthly donor, you help ensure that this refuge endures for all who seek peace, clarity, and belonging. Thank you for being part of this living circle of generosity.
